Fireworks over Kempenfelt Bay II (39x31)
Has anyone as a child ever watched a fireworks show and felt like the firework was so big and bright above, you could almost touch it? I had this thought while painting my concept, as I studied my photo and reminisced about when I was much younger, feeling the excitement with each burst of colour and light. As an adult, I can also appreciate how the crowd of viewers also adds to the energy of the scene with their reactions. Inspired by the previous smaller 8x10 painting and the scene I photographed on Canada Day at the Barrie waterfront in 2023.
I wanted to emphasize the connection to the movement of the gathered crowds and the awe and wonder felt by the children present, by also exaggerating the size of the fireworks. As a child, sometimes these things are perceived as larger than they are, which adds to the excitement.
