Fireworks over Kempenfelt Bay (8x10)
This 8x10 painting was done after attending last year's Canada Day fireworks display at Barrie’s waterfront in 2023.
My family has a tradition of going to see the fireworks with all the kids, and I like to also watch how people react to it.
There was just so much awe and wonder; everyone's waiting for the next flash of light and how loud it is. I attempted to capture the energy of the crowd; some people are moving around to get a better view, and some kids are hiding behind their parents. The kids in the foreground are awestruck while watching the show.
For myself as a kid I remember watching fireworks shows very eagerly, there was a feeling like the fireworks were so big and bright, that you could almost touch them as they were exploding and coming down. I painted that with the same kind of enthusiasm and nostalgia.
